The vast majority of wasabi found outside of Japan is not made from true wasabi root, but from western horseradish. Hon wasabi (real wasabi) is finicky and difficult to grow and thus rather expensive. Kameya’s packaged hon wasabi is grown at the base of Mt. Amagi in Shizuoka Prefecture.
